FootballTransfers runs through the biggest rumours and gossip from 22 July, including the latest updates on Alex Scott, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Guimaraes.
Chelsea make Scott approach
Chelsea recently made an approach for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, as per eSPORTY.
However, the proposal was knocked back by the Cherries, who reiterated their stance that the 22-year-old is not for sale. It follows reports that Scott has turned down several contract offers from Bournemouth since the spring.
Chelsea intimated that they would have been prepared to pay around €70 million, but this is “nowhere near” Bournemouth’s valuation of the player. Scott has also been courted by Arsenal and Man Utd.
Garnacho deal expected
Chelsea and Aston Villa “expect” to reach an agreement for Alejandro Garnacho, according to Ben Jacobs.
Villa made a formal offer for the Argentine on Tuesday, with the clear preference of loaning him before eventually completing a permanent deal. Chelsea have favoured an outright sale this summer, but it appears that they have softened this stance for Villa after signing Morgan Rogers.
Garnacho has greenlit a move to the Birmingham club and is expected to join on a loan deal with a purchase obligation. Chelsea are keen to finalise this deal before the end of the month.
Fresh Guimaraes bid
Jacobs also reports that Arsenal are preparing a new bid for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
The Gunners had a verbal offer, made via intermediaries, rejected in late June, but on Tuesday, reports emerged that the Gunners were poised to finally hold direct club-to-club talks with Newcastle for the first time.
Despite the Magpies’ not-for-sale stance, Arsenal will look to test their resolve with an offer of around €80m in the knowledge that Guimaraes is desperate for the move. Terms with the Brazilian are in place, although he has also received an approach from another Premier League club.
Man Utd eye Sarr
Man Utd have enquired about the availability of Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr, Foot Mercato claims.
Sarr bagged 21 goals for the Eagles last season and is understood to be keen on a move to the Red Devils, as he grew up supporting the club. Man Utd’s interest comes in the wake of Al-Hilal agreeing a deal with West Ham for Crysencio Summerville.
The Dutchman was a target for Man Utd, but he is now no longer available. Whether a move for Sarr materialises could depend on Marcus Rashford and whether or not he is sold this summer.
Chelsea enter Stones race
Chelsea are the latest club to take a keen interest in former Man City defender John Stones, The Athletic reports.
The England star is a free agent after the expiration of his contract at the Etihad and has already been linked with Arsenal this week. Chelsea are now also exploring a move as they seek to strengthen their defence.
The club are in advanced talks over a deal for Crystal Palace star Maxence Lacroix, but Stones could nevertheless join, with Chelsea open to bringing in two new centre-backs. Manager Xabi Alonso is keen to add experience to his backline.
