Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Tuesday that all major decisions in Iran are made in accordance with the directives of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, adding that communication between the two has increased in recent weeks.
Speaking during the National Industry and Mining Day ceremony, Pezeshkian said Khamenei had stressed in private meetings the need to end what he described as the state of “neither war nor peace.”
The president said Iran’s negotiating position included reopening the Strait of Hormuz to oil exports and addressing other key issues. He also accused the United States of failing to honour its commitments.
Pezeshkian further alleged that the United States was waging what he described as a “comprehensive war” aimed at creating internal pressure and destabilising the country. He said attacks on infrastructure were intended to weaken Iran but argued that national unity and the resilience of the country’s industrial sector had prevented those objectives from being achieved.
He added that, in his view, the failure of Iran’s adversaries to achieve their military objectives had led them to shift toward dialogue. Pezeshkian also urged domestic political figures not to undermine the work of Iran’s negotiating team through what he described as ill-considered public statements.
His remarks came as Iranian state television reported a new strike on a site in the mountainous areas of Khorramabad, in Lorestan Province, western Iran. No further details were immediately available.
Separately, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni began a visit to Islamabad, where he met with Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir.
According to reports cited by Al Arabiya, the discussions focused on efforts to facilitate a new round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran, with Pakistan acting as an intermediary.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said diplomatic contacts with the United States through intermediaries remain ongoing despite the recent US military strikes on Iran.
