A distressing video showing an unidentified person trapped in a deep erosion site in Calabar has gone viral on social media, leaving many Nigerians worried and calling for urgent government action.
The video, which surfaced on Saturday, July 18, 2026, shows the person’s arm and hand sticking out from muddy water and debris inside what looks like a gully or erosion channel. The water is flowing strongly around the trapped individual, who does not appear to be moving. Calabar and many parts of Cross River State have long suffered from serious gully erosion, especially during the rainy season. Heavy rains often make the problem worse, destroying houses, roads, and putting lives at risk. Communities like Ikot Effanga Mkpa, Odo Edem Aka Effa, and others in Calabar Municipality have reported similar dangers in recent months.
