Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville remain targets for Manchester United, with West Ham potentially cashing in on the pair following relegation. Both are expected to remain in the Premier League next term, with United among the interested parties.
Michael Carrick’s side are pursuing further deals beyond the acquisition of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who already appears set to complete a £39million move to the Theatre of Dreams. Fernandes and Summerville remain in the mix, though Tottenham could stand in their way over the former.
West Ham have been given a reality check with the publication of the Championship fixture list. Nuno Espirito Santo is staying as manager and will hope to keep some key players on board but some exits are to be expected.

Mateus Fernandes
Mateus Fernandes is arguably the most coveted of West Ham’s assets this summer. There is little question the player possesses the quality to perform at Champions League level, and United are seeking a second midfielder to complement Ederson.
The message following the Hammers’ relegation seems straightforward enough: key players are available at the right price but there isn’t a desperation for a fire stale. The price point is precisely where the obstacle with Fernandes lies, as reports suggest Carrick’s side are unwilling to meet his £80m valuation.
The latest reports indicate United and Fernandes, who is also being monitored by Tottenham, have already reached agreement on personal terms. This is arguably the strongest indication yet that a player is willing to complete the transfer, even prior to putting pen to paper, though this one could have some way to run.
Crysencio Summerville
Another West Ham player who looks set for a summer exit, Crysencio Summerville’s circumstances are further complicated by his World Cup commitments. The Netherlands international scored in both of his country’s opening two fixtures in North America and has consequently increased his market value.
As with Fernandes, there’s a fear it could be a matter of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’ Summerville departs the London Stadium this summer. Again, Spurs are believed to be amongst the suitors for the £50m-rated winger, whose valuation doubled following an encouraging first season at West Ham despite their relegation to the Championship, while Roma have also been linked.
Other transfer news
Summerville’s future could have something to do with West Ham’s own incomings. Brighton winger Amario Cozier-Duberry is believed to be a target after thriving with promoted Bolton in League One last term.
In the middle of the park, Mohamadou Kante has attracted interest from France but could have a big role to play after breaking through under Nuno last term. Were Fernandes to depart, it could allow the 20-year-old to step up.
There is also the question of what to do with Edson Alvarez. The Mexican midfielder spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce but his form at the World Cup has raised questions of whether Nuno should try to reintegrate the 28-year-old rather than cashing in.
