Oxford United have confirmed summer signing Frankie Kent is set to miss the ‘majority of the season’ through injury.
The defender has undergone surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in pre-season training.

It comes just three weeks after Kent joined the club from Hearts.
The 30-year-old was signed on a free transfer back on June 27 by the League One club.
However, he will not make his competitive debut until at least 2027 following the injury setback.
Oxford statement
Oxford revealed the extent of his lay-off in a club statement on Thursday.
The U’s said: “Oxford United can confirm that Frankie Kent has undergone successful surgery after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
“Kent sustained the injury during a training session and is expected to miss the majority of the 2026/27 season.
“The defender joined the Club this summer following three years with Heart of Midlothian.
“He will now begin the rehabilitation phase of his recovery under the care of the Club’s medical staff.
“Everyone at Oxford United wishes Frankie a full and speedy recovery, and the entire Club will support him every step of the way.”
Kent was part of the Hearts side which finished second in the Scottish Premiership last season.

He made 95 appearances in all competitions during three years with the Jambos.
The former Arsenal academy starlet has also had spells with Colchester United and Peterborough United.
Latest setback
His new club have now been dealt a significant blow ahead of their return to the third-tier.
Oxford were relegated last season following two seasons in the Championship.
Aaron Ramsey has since been appointed as manager, replacing Matt Bloomfield in the dugout.
However, his side are currently blocked from making new signings due to an EFL transfer embargo.

Oxford begin their league campaign at home to MK Dons on August 15.
It comes a week after their Carabao Cup first round tie away to Leyton Orient.
