Aston Villa superstar Morgan Rogers has admitted that fellow Arsenal target Ezri Konsa “can do everything” as the duo prepare for England’s World Cup quarter-final clash against Norway on Saturday.
Rogers and Konsa are both on Arsenal’s transfer radar ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, and widespread rumours have suggested that Mikel Arteta’s side will look to pursue the pair once they return from international duty in North America.
FootballTransfers has been informed that Arsenal are close to reaching a breakthrough in talks with Villa over a deal for Rogers, with the 23-year-old eager to complete a move to the Emirates Stadium before the summer transfer window closes on 1 September.
Konsa, on the other hand, has emerged as a new target for the Gunners in recent weeks and it’s understood that he is viewed as a potential replacement for Ben White, who could be set to leave the club before Deadline Day.
Konsa is capable of playing at centre-back or right-back, just like White, and he is reportedly valued at around €70 million by Aston Villa, despite the fact he only has two years remaining on his current contract with Unai Emery’s side.
Asked whether his current Villa team-mate gets the credit he deserves ahead of England’s clash against Norway, Rogers told reporters: “No, nowhere near. I think he’s one of the best centre-backs in football, if I’m honest, I think at this World Cup.
“I think the ability that he’s got, he can do everything as a centre-back, never gets beaten in the air, strong in the tackle, unbelievable on the ball.
“Honestly, I don’t know a flaw in his game, and I think that’s helped Villa that probably a bigger club has not taken him in the last few years.
“I think that’s helped us, because I honestly don’t know a problem in his game, really.”
Rogers continued: “It’s nice that he gets the recognition and he can compete on the world stage, and everyone can see how good he actually is. I think he does go under the radar massively and in these conversations of the best centre-backs, he is right up there.”
Analysis: Will Arsenal sign Ezri Konsa this summer?
While Arsenal are understood to be keeping close tabs on Konsa ahead of a potential summer swoop, Villa are unlikely to sanction a sale unless a major offer is submitted and this could harm the Gunners’ chances of finalising a deal.
In addition to Rogers, Arteta also wants to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, while it’s claimed that a deal is in place for Club Brugge forward Christos Tzolis.
As a result, Arsenal may be unable to fund a deal for Konsa if Villa demand €70m as reported, and a summer move to the Emirates Stadium therefore seems fairly unlikely at current. However, that could change if Arsenal are able to offload the aforementioned White for a decent fee.
