Arsenal could be facing a huge test this summer transfer window with major dominoes falling and midfielders moving for major fees hiking the prices
Arsenal look to be embroiled in the classic merry-go-round of the transfer window this summer. As the dominoes are falling following the early moves from Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, the Gunners are keeping things firmly on the ground.
Andrea Berta is taking a measured approach to the window football.london understands. With huge fees being paid for players whose market value simply does not stack up to the same level, there is an emphasis on not falling into a transfer trap.
But the knock-on effects are already obvious. Early suggestions in the summer felt that Bruno Guimaraes, for example, might’ve moved for around £65million however, the nature of how the market has evolved sees new expectations as high as £80million with some claiming, although it is suspected more through Newcastle market tactics than reality, of a £100million asking price.

The player wants the move, Arsenal want the move but, naturally, Newcastle do not. With Alexander Isak last summer, it took until deadline day for a resolution with Liverpool, all the parties will not want a repeat of such a fiasco this time.
But it is more a financial merry-go-round affecting the window more than anything else. Newcastle were under some financial pressure, fined by UEFA for breaches in financial fair play rules, but the sales of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have more than balanced the books, and so pressure to sell Bruno is purely from a player and Arsenal side.
Whereas with Aston Villa, who currently possess Morgan Rogers, believed to be Arsenal’s number one target this summer, they remain in need of financial aid. Spending close to £60million on Johan Manzambi, assuming the move goes through, with an injury suffered by Amadou Onana, has created an even bigger need.
Rogers is the obvious candidate to help them, but Manchester United’s purchase of Youri Tielemans for his £35million release clause and PSG’s move for £7million Lucas Digne have helped. That said, more is understood to be needed, and now Tielemans will need replacing with Manzambi alone, not enough.
There is a real possibility Arsenal will spend £200million on just two players if the fees for Bruno Guimaraes and Morgan Rogers are of such a level. Add together the two most expensive fees ever paid by Arsenal for two players, Declan Rice and Nicolas Pepe, and that only reached £177million.
A new era of the Premier League transfer window appears to have arrived. It is just a shame it has come at the moment Arsenal finally became champions.
