Jerusalem Governorate condemns Israeli plan to establish largest settlement in East Jerusalem

The Jerusalem Governorate said on Monday that the approval of a plan to establish the largest Israeli settlement inside a Palestinian neighbourhood in East Jerusalem would be a major escalation and blatant violation of international law.

The plan seeks to establish around 450 units in the Umm Lison neighbourhood, southeast of occupied Jerusalem, to accommodate nearly 2,000 settlers within an existing Palestinian neighbourhood.

The Governorate said the project forms part of a broader colonial system targeting the dismantling of Palestinian geography in southern occupied Jerusalem which aims to restrict Palestinian urban expansion and surround neighbourhoods with connected settlement blocs.
