Barcelona’s ambitious summer transfer window continues, with the Catalan club looking poised to wrap up a deal for Club Brugge youngster Jesse Bisiwu.
The reigning LaLiga champions are going big this summer, following their return to the 1:1 rule, which effectively allows them to reinvest every euro they earn in revenues without any restrictions.
After years of pinching pennies, this is a welcome boost for Barcelona, although that does not necessarily mean that they are completely out of the woods just yet. On the contrary, there are signs of budget cuts behind the scenes.
These cuts may be down to the Catalan outfit’s large spending on their men’s team. Anthony Gordon has already joined from Newcastle for a whopping €80 million, while Karim Adeyemi is up next, with the club agreeing a €29m deal with Borussia Dortmund.
Both Gordon and Adeyemi are wingers, but that may not be the end of the club strengthening their flanks. According to Fabrizio Romano and Spanish media, Barcelona are also stepping up their pursuit of Brugge teenager Bisiwu. The 18-year-old is – you guessed it – a winger.
Barcelona sign three wingers – but not Rashford
An opening bid of around €9m has been rejected by the Belgian giants. Barcelona are set to return with an improved offer, and there appears to be optimism over a potential deal, even if they will likely have to grant Brugge a significant sell-on clause.
Bisiwu, who only has a year left on his contract, has already greenlit the transfer. The idea would be for the youngster to initially link up with Barca Atletic, which is unsurprising given that he would struggle for minutes behind Gordon and Adeyemi.
Nevertheless, it is baffling that Barcelona are now looking to sign their third winger of the summer and Marcus Rashford is not one of them. Heading into the summer, the England star appeared destined to join the Blaugrana permanently after his loan from Man Utd.
However, the club failed to push down his price and ultimately left the discussions, despite Rashford’s willingness to take a significant pay cut to finalise his “dream” move. He may now be forced to stay at Man Utd.
The notion that Barcelona would bring in three wingers not named Rashford this summer would have seemed nothing short of ridiculous just a few weeks ago, and yet here we are.
What’s more, Barcelona are also still planning to bolster their striker option. They want to return with a new bid for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, and they could even pursue another No.9 signing even if they were to strike a deal for the Argentine.
Fisnik Asllani, currently at Hoffenheim, and free agent striker Dusan Vlahovic are two options currently being considered, as per Sport. These deals would be financed with a €210m loan Barcelona took out on Friday.
Barcelona are going big this summer – but Rashford has to look on from afar.
