Conor McGregor makes his highly anticipated return to the Octagon in the early hours of Sunday morning (BST), as the former two-weight champion faces all-time great Max Holloway in a blockbuster rematch at UFC 329 in Las Vegas.
The bout marks McGregor’s first fight under the UFC banner since 2021, when he suffered a defeat to Dustin Poirier after breaking his tibia in the opening round.
Holloway, meanwhile, has remained one of the most active and respected fighters in the sport.
The former featherweight champion has competed four times over the past two years, picking up two victories and suffering two defeats against elite-level opposition.
After delivering one of the greatest knockouts in UFC history against Justin Gaethje in April 2024, Holloway experienced the first knockout loss of his career later that year when he was stopped by Ilia Topuria.
The Hawaiian responded with a victory over Poirier in 2025, before falling short against Charles Oliveira in March of this year.

Given Holloway’s recent activity and continued run of high-profile fights, it is little surprise that he enters as the favourite with Sky Bet. At the time of writing, Holloway is priced at 1/3, while McGregor is a 9/4 underdog.
McGregor does, however, hold the only previous victory between the pair, having defeated Holloway by decision in their first meeting 13 years ago.
Much has changed since then, and Holloway will be confident that his experience and activity can help him settle the score this time around.
However, McGregor will also take confidence from the fact that the fight is taking place at welterweight. The Irishman has competed at 170lbs on three previous occasions, while Holloway is yet to test himself at that weight class.
The added size and strength that comes with moving up could prove to be a significant factor in McGregor’s favour, but whether Holloway can adapt seamlessly to the heavier division remains to be seen.
With both fighters bringing different advantages into the contest, only time will tell whether McGregor’s experience at welterweight or Holloway’s proven ability against elite opposition ultimately makes the difference.
