Nigerian defender Christian Akpan has signed a new four-year contract with Belgian Pro League club KRC Genk, Completesports.com reports.
The new deal will keep the versatile defender at the Cegeka Arena until 2030, underlining the club’s faith in his long-term potential.
Akpan joined Genk in 2023 and steadily rose through the club’s youth ranks before earning promotion to the senior squad.
The 21-year-old made an impressive first-team debut against Gent last season, producing a standout display that earned him the Man of the Match award.

The young defender has made 59 appearances across all competitions for the Smurfs.

“We are pleased that Christian wants to commit his future to our club. Furthermore, due to his versatility, he is an extremely interesting profile for the technical staff. Players like him give coaches the ability to switch tactics during a match if necessary,” says Head of Football Dimitri de Condé told the club’s official website.
He also achieved another major milestone last month when he made his senior international debut for Nigeria in a 2-1 friendly defeat to Portugal.
Akpan started the encounter before making way for Abdullahi Bewene in the 60th minute.
