FootballTransfers runs through the latest Man Utd transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Karl Darlow, Julian Ryerson and Manu Kone.
Darlow set to sign for Man Utd
Manchester United are close to signing Karl Darlow on a free transfer from Leeds United, according to The Athletic.
Darlow is a free agent after his contract expired last month and the 35-year-old is in advanced talks to move to Old Trafford as a backup to number one goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Everton had also explored a move for Darlow, while United had considered former academy graduate and Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone as another experienced option for their squad.
However, Darlow is set to become the first player to move between Leeds and Man Utd since 2004, with the Red Devils now likely to sanction the departure of current backup Altay Bayindir.
Third midfielder lined up
Manchester United have now identified a third midfielder to bring in this summer to follow Ederson and Andrey Santos, who could both complete their moves to Old Trafford in the coming days.
Ederson is completing the second part of his medical ahead of a €45 million move from Atalanta, while Santos will join from Chelsea after a deal was agreed this week.
Now, according to TEAMtalk, Manu Kone has emerged as a ‘serious option’ for United to become a third midfielder signing this summer after Roma opened the door to a transfer, with a fee of £50m (€58.5m) thought to be enough to convince them into a sale due to their need to meet UEFA’s financial regulations.
Intermediaries for Kone are believed to have spoken to Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, along with United, with clubs being told that the 25-year-old is ‘enthusiastic’ about moving to England for the right opportunity.
Tchouameni rejects Man Utd interest
The news comes after Aurelien Tchouameni made a firm decision over his future at Real Madrid despite being considered Man Utd’s dream midfielder target.
Tchouameni has agreed a new five-year deal with Real Madrid, which will see him commit his future to the Bernabeu side until 2031, RMC reports.
The Frenchman was ‘never close’ to joining Man Utd, according to Fabrizio Romano, as they were unwilling to match Real Madrid’s expectation of a transfer fee around the €130 million mark. On top of this, Tchouameni’s wages were not at a level that United found acceptable.
In addition, new Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho had made it clear that he wanted to retain Tchouameni, despite his clash with Federico Valverde last season.
Man Utd consider move for Ryerson
Man Utd have “renewed” their contact with Borussia Dortmund defender Julian Ryerson, BILD understands.
The Norway international is currently starring at the World Cup and enhancing his already sparkling reputation. The right-back finished the bygone season with 18 assists to his name.
Man Utd had already expressed an interest in the €30m-rated defender previously, and they are now once again holding talks with his representatives over a potential transfer.
