Real Madrid have confirmed they are not in talks to sign Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez this summer, despite reports to the contrary.
The Argentina international has been heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu before the end of the 2026 summer transfer window, and it’s understood that he is eager to join former Chelsea team-mate Marc Cucurella at the club.
Fernandez still has six years remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, but his agent Javier Pastore has confirmed that he is exploring the possibility of leaving the west London club following their failure to qualify for Europe last season.
Fernandez hinted at his desire to join Real Madrid during the March international break, which saw him handed a two-game suspension by then-Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior, while it has been reported that he will look to complete a move to Los Blancos after his participation at the World Cup with Argentina.
The 25-year-old has made 169 appearances for Chelsea since his arrival from Benfica in January 2023, scoring 31 goals, and the Blues are now pursuing a deal for Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka as they prepare for Fernandez’s potential exit.
Xabi Alonso’s side have reportedly set their asking price at €140 million amid Real Madrid’s interest in Fernandez, although the Spanish giants have now confirmed that negotiations over a summer transfer are not ongoing.

In an official statement posted on the club’s website, Los Blancos said: “In light of the reports and statements that have appeared in recent days regarding an alleged interest from Real Madrid CF in the player Enzo Fernández, the club wishes to state that it has not made any effort, either direct or indirect, to sign the aforementioned player and, likewise, has no intention of undertaking such an operation.
“Real Madrid wishes to express its utmost respect for Enzo Fernández, a great footballer whose career and quality are widely known, as well as for Chelsea FC, a club with which it maintains an excellent institutional relationship.
“Precisely because of the respect that an entity like Chelsea FC deserves and because of the principles of institutional loyalty that have always governed the actions of Real Madrid, the club considers it necessary to categorically deny speculations that are unfounded and do not correspond to reality.
“Real Madrid regrets that, despite the clarity of the facts and the lack of any action on the part of the club, information continues to be disseminated that does not correspond to reality and that only contributes to generating confusion among fans and unnecessarily harming the entities and people involved.”
Real Madrid have already signed Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate and the aforementioned Cucurella so far this summer, and they are reportedly prioritising player sales before looking to add further players to Jose Mourinho’s first-team squad.
