Arsenal have announced that they will face Borussia Dortmund in this summer’s Emirates Cup clash in North London
Arsenal have announced that this summer’s Emirates Cup opponents will be Borussia Dortmund. As football.london exclusively revealed, the Bundesliga side had been in talks with the Premier League champions with an aim of organising a match.
Now successful, the two sides will meet at Emirates Stadium on Sunday, August 9, for a 2pm kick-off. This is expected not to be the final game at the Gunners’ home stadium in pre-season, with a match with Como 1907 understood by football.london to be awaiting confirmation for the following Wednesday, August 12.
Club CEO Richard Garlick said: “We’re delighted to host the Emirates Cup once again and welcome our supporters back home to Emirates Stadium as we continue our preparations for the season ahead.

Arsenal have faced Dortmund eight times in their history, all in the UEFA Champions League. Winning four, drawing once and losing three times.
Their most recent meeting came more than a decade ago in 2014 when Arsene Wenger’s side drew the German club in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. They were beaten 2-0 away from home before returning the favour in a 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium with goals from Yaya Sanogo and Alexis Sanchez.
Depending on how far some of the club’s players go in the World Cup, this could provide a good idea of the timeline for their return. It could also be an opportunity to see some of the club’s new summer signings if deals are completed in time and such players have completed their time off and pre-season conditioning.
