Interpol on Friday named the suspect in the Monaco bombing that reportedly targeted a Ukrainian tycoon with links to Russia.
It identified Anastasiia Berezovska, a 39-year-old woman from Ukraine, as the suspect in a Red Notice posted on its website seeking her arrest.
The Interpol notice says she has a tattoo, possibly of a snake, on her right arm from the shoulder to the elbow. She is thought to have dressed up as a man to plant the booby-trapped backpack, police believe. The 39-year-old has since been spotted in Germany, a source told Reuters.
According to a well-placed source, the suspect is a Ukrainian national living in Frankfurt, Germany, with known links to organised crime.
A Monaco prosecutor has claimed the person who planted the bomb used a remote control to detonate the explosive. She is believed to have dumped the backpack that exploded in the foyer, just before 9pm on Monday evening and she is thought to have been about 12 meters away when she triggered the device.
“The prime suspect was identified by a witness,” said an investigating source.
“She is a Ukrainian woman in her thirties. She is armed and dangerous, and thought to be in the company of accomplices,’ said the source. ‘She should be approached with extreme caution.”
The search for the suspect remains ongoing, with authorities issuing an arrest warrant in an effort to apprehend them.
An Interpol Red Notice has also been issued, requesting law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest the suspect wherever they may be found, pending extradition or other legal proceedings.
Three people were wounded in the parcel bomb explosion in the wealthy principality, which was believed to be an attack on a Ukrainian-born oligarch.
The Monaco authorities have not confirmed the victims’ identities, but according to well-placed sources, the attack targeted Vadym Iermolaiev, 58, a wealthy businessman originally from Ukraine and now a Cypriot national, his partner and his son.
Prosecutor Stephane Thibault said earlier this week that woman who was in a life-threatening condition. The other victims include a man who was no longer in a life-threatening condition and a child whose life was not in danger, he added.
