The National Institute for Sports (NIS) has taken another step towards ensuring it contributes to the task of addressing youth unemployment issues in Nigeria and play a key role in building an effective workforce for modern economic needs.
Sports247 reports that the latest step was taken when top management staff of the NIS turned up at a two-day exhibition workshop organized by Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) at Continental Hotel, Abuja.

The venture, which brought together members of Nigeria Employers’ team and key stakeholders, aimed at strengthening private-public partnerships in the country, as well as a create a platform for sports education, research and human capital advancement.
A press release signed by Ben Ogbemudia, special assistant media in the office of the NSC’s director general and chief executive officer, Comrade Philip Shaibu, disclosed that the programme reflected shared innovative visions of the NIS and NECA.
Ogbemudia also noted that they both work to promote innovation, sustainable economic growth through education, skills acquisition and institutional collaboration, as well as tackling unemployment through innovative initiatives.
He added, “The workshop is in line with the advocacy of Comrade Philip Shaibu to promote public-private partnerships as a key strategy for repositioning the Institute and expanding opportunities for youth development, skills acquisition and national growth.
“As part of the engagement, NECA highlighted its commitment to creating youth employment opportunities. Participants were introduced to NECA’s Job Seekers’ Database, which connects employers with qualified professionals, and the NECA ICT Academy, established in 2020.
“(Its aim is) to equip young Nigerians with in-demand skills – such as Python Programming, ICDL certification, Digital Marketing, Graphics Design, and Web Design, while promoting entrepreneurship and globally recognised certifications.
“By collaborating with NECA, the National Institute for Sports reinforces its commitment to producing highly skilled professionals, expanding opportunities for Nigerian youths, and positioning sports as a catalyst for national development.”
Sports247 reports further that workshop also had in attendance NIS Consultant, Dr. Majoroh Uruemu, alongside directors, management staff and top officials of the institute as well as representatives of Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association.
