The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has broken his silence on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) elective congress, revealing that critical discussions will be held with football stakeholders ahead of the September elections.
With the countdown to the NFF congress gathering momentum, Olopade disclosed that the commission plans to engage the federation and other stakeholders on proposed reforms and the statutes guiding Nigeria’s football administration.

The NFF elective congress is expected to shape the future leadership of Nigerian football, with stakeholders already calling for reforms aimed at strengthening governance, transparency and the overall development of the game.
“There will be discussions with the Nigeria Football Federation and other stakeholders regarding the reforms and statutes before the elective congress. Those conversations are important,” Olopade said.
The NSC boss, who has consistently advocated stronger collaboration between sports federations and government institutions since assuming office, stressed that the commission would respect FIFA’s regulations by avoiding direct interference in football administration.
He explained that while the NSC cannot publicly take sides in the electoral process, it remains committed to supporting a peaceful, transparent and credible congress.
“We cannot interfere or publicly take a position because football has its statutes, but we will continue to engage stakeholders and support whoever emerges through the process,” he added.
Olopade also reiterated the commission’s commitment to working with the next NFF leadership, expressing optimism that stronger cooperation between the NSC and the federation would accelerate football development across the country.
The September elective congress is expected to be one of the most significant moments in Nigerian football this year, with decisions taken likely to shape the game’s direction over the next four years.
