Former Nigeria international Garba Lawal has urged Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to make qualification for the next FIFA World Cup their foremost objective.

Lawal said Nigeria cannot afford to miss a third consecutive World Cup, stressing that securing a place at football’s biggest tournament must take precedence over every other target.
“World Cup qualification must be our top priority. Nigeria cannot afford to miss another edition because the country belongs on that stage,” Lawal said.
The former Super Eagles midfielder welcomed the decision to extend Chelle’s contract, describing it as a positive step that will provide the coach with the stability needed to implement his long-term plans.

According to Lawal, continuity within the technical crew will allow the Franco-Malian tactician to build a more competitive squad capable of challenging for major honours.
“The contract extension gives the coach confidence and stability. It allows him to settle down, understand the players better and build a team for the future,” he added.
Lawal noted that sustained planning and consistency are essential if Nigeria is to regain its place among the world’s leading football nations.
He called on the players, coaching staff and football administrators to work together to ensure the Super Eagles return to the FIFA World Cup and restore the country’s reputation on the global stage.
