The Nigerian record holder heads into the Games in confident mood after producing another dominant display at the national trials, reinforcing his status as the country’s leading shot put athlete.
“My focus is winning a medal. That’s what I’ve been preparing for, and I believe I have what it takes to compete with the very best,” Enekwechi said.
The Commonwealth Games medal hopeful acknowledged the expectations of Nigerians but insisted they serve as motivation rather than pressure as he prepares for one of the biggest competitions of the year.
Enekwechi said months of intensive preparation have given him confidence that he can deliver when it matters most.
“I know Nigerians are expecting a lot from me, and I appreciate that support. My job now is to stay focused and give everything when the competition begins,” he added.
The experienced thrower has been one of Nigeria’s most consistent performers in field events over the years, representing the country at the Olympic Games, World Championships and Commonwealth Games.
With the national title secured, Enekwechi will now look to convert his impressive form into a podium finish as Team Nigeria targets another successful outing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
