NPFL: Finidi Outlines Objectives As Rivers United Resume Training Ahead New Season

Rivers United Technical Manager, Finidi George, has outlined the team’s plan for the 2026/27 season following their early resumption for pre-season training, Completesports.com reports.

The Port Harcourt club finished second behind winners, Rangers International, in the 2025/2026 season, and would join the winners in representing the country in next season’s CAF Champions League.

After a one month break granted the players to refresh after the conclusion of last season, Rivers United regrouped at their Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Complex, Omagwa, near Port Harcourt, with their first training on Monday morning.

Finidi Demands Total Commitment From Players

After the training, Finidi responded to Chief Okey Kpalukwu, club’s General Manager’s admonition to the team.

Finidi said resuming training on time will help his coaching crew to prepare well ahead of the three competitions facing them next season.

“The early period of pre-season will be focused on building fitness levels, establishing tactical cohesion and integrating our new signings into the squad”, Finidi told the club’s media.

“With the demands of continental football, we must prepare thoroughly from the outset,” he said.

Kpalukwu Promises Management Support

Earlier, Okey Kpalukwu, Rivers United General Manager, on behalf of the club’s management, welcomed both returning and new players to the club.

Kpalukwu charged the squad to remain focused and to strictly obey the instructions of the technical crew as preparations begin in earnest for the new season.

Kpalukwu reminded the players that the government and people of Rivers State, as well as the football-loving Nigerians, are counting on the team to make them proud.

He also assured the squad of the full support of the team’s sponsors throughout the campaign.
