Fresh from securing the biggest victory of his career at the DavNotch Open Tennis Championship, Abubakar Yusuf has continued his remarkable run of form by emerging champion of the Tswako Foundation UTR Competition in Abuja.
Sports247 reports that the in-form tennis star defeated fellow Mambilla Barracks talent Yahaya Sani-Inabo 8-3 in the final of the one-day tournament to claim the title and the winner’s cash prize of ₦100,000.

Yahaya, who also impressed throughout the competition, received ₦50,000 as the runner-up, while David Edwards and Tobi Agboola finished as semifinalists and earned ₦25,000 each. The quarterfinalists were also rewarded with ₦5,000 apiece.
Yusuf’s latest triumph further underlines his rapid rise in Nigerian tennis and extends what has been a memorable week for the young player.
Sports247 gathered that the tournament victory comes barely a day after the unheralded star stunned Nigerian number one Canice Abua to win his maiden senior national title at the DavNotch Open Tennis Championship. Yusuf produced a composed and dominant display to defeat the top seed 6-4, 6-1 in straight sets, announcing himself as one of the country’s most exciting emerging talents.
The DavNotch triumph was particularly significant as Yusuf had never previously reached the final of a national tournament. Despite his lack of experience at that stage, he defied expectations to overcome one of Nigeria’s most accomplished players and lift the biggest trophy of his career.
