Emmanuel Fernandez Draws Summer Transfer Interest From Rennes, Feyenoord, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund

Super Eagles’ fast-rising defender, Emmanuel Oluwasegun Opeyemi Fernandez is attracting keen summer transfer interest from four top clubs – Stade Rennes of France, Feyenoord of Netherlands as well as Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund of Germany.

Sports247 reports that the amazing burst Fernandez gained in the second half of the past season with Glasgow Rangers of Scotland is bound to help him move into the brighter spotlight of European football, barely a year after his days of playing in the third-tier.

It also marks a huge turn around for Fernandez, who began his career with Brentford and Gillingham, from where he spent time on loan at Sheppey United and Margate, following which he was released by The Gills and moved to Ramsgate.

Soon after, the 24-year-old, who arrived at Ibrox from English League One side, Peterborough United for around £3.5 million last year, has developed into one of the standout centre-backs in the Scottish Premiership.

A report by French outlet Ouest-France, adds, “Rangers are expected to demand a significant profit should they decide to sell the Nigeria international, following an impressive debut season in which he scored five goals in 27 league appearances.

“He won the club’s Player of the Season award and his performances also earned him three caps for Nigeria. Fernandez is one of three central defenders on Rennes’ shortlist as they assess reinforcements for their backline.

“Rennes are already making huge plans ahead of the new Ligue 1 campaign but they are not alone in their pursuit, with Feyenoord, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund also closely monitoring the highly rated defender.”
