Arsenal to make second approach for Bruno Guimaraes after being told Newcastle star was NOT for sale following talks with his representatives

Arsenal are preparing a second approach to Newcastle for captain Bruno Guimaraes.

Daily Mail Sport revealed on Thursday that the Premier League champions were interested in the midfielder and had held talks with his representatives. Those intermediaries have been told by Newcastle’s hierarchy that Guimaraes is not for sale.

However, we understand a new proposal is now being readied and will be presented to the Magpies. It is likely that Newcastle’s stance will remain the same.

Guimaraes is currently at the World Cup with Brazil and, while he has not told his club he wants to leave, his name being circulated around Premier League rivals has raised alarm inside St James’ Park.

The 28-year-old has two years to run on his contract and it is not yet known if he is looking to quit the club or negotiate a new deal.

Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his midfield ahead of Arsenal’s title defence and they have identified Guimaraes as one of their top targets.
