A pair of gold Wembley cufflinks belonging to England and West Ham legend Bobby Moore are set to go under the hammer with an estimate of up to £5,000
A pair of gold Wembley cufflinks once owned by West Ham icon and England World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore are expected to go under the hammer. Early estimates suggest they could fetch up to £5,000.
The iconic skipper, who died after a battle with bowel cancer in 1993, received the weighty cufflinks to commemorate his final appearance in an FA Cup final at the famous stadium in 1975. The items are being put up for sale by his family.
The .750 gold pieces were presented to the legendary defender to mark a match that saw Moore turn out for Fulham against his former club West Ham in the Wembley showpiece. The Hammers ran out 2-0 winners on the day, with Alan Taylor scoring both goals.
Auctioneers suggest the high carat gold content reflects just how greatly revered Moore was throughout the entire nation. Crafted by Royal Jewellers Asprey & Co, the cufflinks weigh 43 grams and are engraved with the inscription WEMBLEY 1975.

David Convery of BUDDS Auctions, who are overseeing the sale, said: “The game in question was quite poignant as Bobby played with Fulham and played against West Ham United, his former team who he played 544 times for.
“The game ended 2-0 to West Ham United. I don’t know how often he wore them they are very heavy so, I would suggest not often.”
Two additional pieces, a silver cigarette case and four gold cup charms, round off the Bobby Moore collection in the sale. The cigarette case, produced by Joseph Gloster Ltd, features a hinged lid engraved with the Redbridge crest.
The front panel bears the inscription Presented by THE LONDON BOROUGH OF REDBRIDGE on 4th October 1966, on behalf of his fellow citizens to BOBBY MOORE in recognition of his Captaincy of the victorious England football team World Cup 1966.
The third lot comprises four 9ct gold charms including a Jules Rimet Cup, another cup, a football and a supporter’s rattle. The charms were initially bought by Bobby as a present for his mother and are estimated at up to £2,800.
The items are part of a World Cup auction featuring memorabilia from some of the most legendary moments in football history. The auction is due to take place on June 25.
