The latest on Chelsea’s ongoing search for a new head coach with three new names appearing to create a six-man shortlist alongside Xavi Alonso, Marco Silva and Andoni Iraola
Chelsea’s shortlist of options to become the club’s new permanent head coach includes the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Oliver Glasner and Filipe Luis, football.london understands.
These three join Andoni Iraola, Xabi Alonso and Marco Silva to complete a six-man list of candidates to become Liam Rosenior’s permanent successor at Stamford Bridge. Sources say Chelsea are planning to have a new head coach in place by the midway point of next month ahead of a big summer for the Blues in the transfer market.
Chelsea are expected to be very busy in terms of signings this summer, with a centre-back, central midfielder and left-sided winger all priorities for the club’s hierarchy. At the moment, though, Chelsea’s five-strong sporting leadership team are focused on the process of appointing a new head coach.

Fabregas is an option for the Blues, though sources say the former Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder is keen to stay at Como beyond this summer after a superb season with the Serie A club. It was confirmed at the weekend that Como have achieved European football for the first time in their history – just two years after being promoted to Italy’s top-flight.
Glasner, meanwhile, will be a free agent once the season is over after he announced way back in January that he will be departing Crystal Palace this summer. The Austrian is hoping to sign off with a bang at Selhurst Park and make it back-to-back trophies by winning the Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano later this month.
As for Luis, the former Chelsea left-back has enjoyed a successful two seasons with Flamengo in Brazil. Luis guided Flamengo to the Brazilian title in his debut season with the club and then won the 2025 Copa Libertadores. However, back in March, the 40-year-old was bizarrely sacked moments after his side won 8-0 in the Campeonato Carioca semi-final. Luis has been a free agent since and is under consideration by Chelsea.
The likes of Alonso, Silva and Iraola remain on Chelsea’s radar, and it is understood nothing is advanced at the time of writing in terms of who will succeed Rosenior.
