Newly elected President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, Lekan Fatodu, has described his emergence as the federation’s new leader as a responsibility to reposition aquatics in Nigeria.
Fatodu said his election represents more than a new appointment, insisting it is an opportunity to build a stronger foundation for the sport and create lasting success.

“This is a call to serve,” Fatodu said.
The new federation president pledged to prioritise the development of young athletes by establishing a sustainable system capable of producing future champions across Nigeria’s aquatic sports.
According to him, investing in grassroots talent will remain one of the federation’s biggest priorities.
“We want to build a sustainable talent development structure that will take Nigerian aquatics to another level,” he added.
Fatodu also acknowledged the financial challenges facing the federation and assured stakeholders that tackling funding issues would be among his immediate priorities.
He stressed that improving the federation’s financial stability is essential to creating better opportunities for athletes and ensuring consistent participation in international competitions.
“Funding is one of the key issues we intend to address immediately,” he stated.
The new president believes a stronger administrative structure, improved funding and sustained investment in athlete development will help raise the profile of Nigerian aquatics on the continental and global stage.
Fatodu’s election comes as the federation begins a new chapter aimed at strengthening its programmes and expanding opportunities for swimmers and other aquatic athletes across the country.
