Former Green Eagles goalkeeper Etta Egbe has warned that Super Eagles shot-stopper Stanley Nwabali can no longer take his place in the national team for granted, insisting the goalkeeper must prove he still deserves the No.1 jersey.
With competition for places intensifying in the Super Eagles squad, Egbe believes Nwabali’s return to the national team will depend largely on his own attitude and performances.

“It all depends on his hunger to continue representing Nigeria,” Egbe said.
The former international stressed that the goalkeeper has a responsibility to rebuild his career and demonstrate why he should remain first choice.
According to Egbe, the competition for the goalkeeping position has become much stronger, meaning every player must earn his place.
“He has to get his career back on track because there is real competition now,” he added.
Egbe also suggested that the praise Nwabali received following his impressive performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations may have affected the goalkeeper’s mindset.
“The days when he felt too comfortable are over,” he stated.
The former Green Eagles goalkeeper believes increased competition can only benefit the national team, as it will push every goalkeeper to maintain high standards.
Nwabali established himself as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper after his impressive displays at the Africa Cup of Nations, but Egbe insists reputation alone will not guarantee a place in the squad.
The former international maintained that only consistent performances at club and international level will keep Nwabali ahead of the competition for the Super Eagles’ No.1 shirt.
