Liverpool’s pursuit of Yan Diomande could take another twist, with RB Leipzig so far refusing to quote an asking price for their in-demand star after rejecting a €100 million offer from the Premier League giants.
Diomande is Liverpool’s ideal target to strengthen on the wings following the departure of Mohamed Salah and the Merseysiders submitted a bid of €90m plus €10m in add-ons last week for the 19-year-old.
Leipzig swiftly turned down the proposal and Sky Sport Germany have now revealed that, while Liverpool are expected to return with a new offer, they have not been told by the Bundesliga outfit how much it would take to sign Diomande.
The German side are said to ‘remain firm’ in their desire to keep hold of Diomande for one more year and only a ‘significant’ offer above €100m could tempt them to changing their stance, with the player not considered ‘untouchable’.
The situation is described as ‘dynamic’, with Leipzig aware that Diomande has a long-term contract without a release clause and that his value is continuing to rise, hence why they have not set an asking price.
Leipzig are also engaged in talks to hand Diomande a new contract with a significant salary boost and a potential release clause as they await a new offer from Liverpool or from Paris Saint-Germain, who remain interested.
Liverpool could switch attention to Barcola after Leipzig harden Diomande stance
Diomande has not publicly pushed for an exit from Leipzig after joining the club last season from Leganes, having previously admitted affirmed his loyalty and affection to the club for the opportunity they provided him.
However, the interest from PSG has tempted Diomande to consider his future, with the youngster admitting that his dream is to play for them due to his father supporting the French side.
In spite of that, Diomande has not suggested he would choose to sign for PSG over Liverpool, nor has there been any offer from the Parisians as of yet.
Much could depend on the future of Bradley Barcola, who is also a target for Liverpool and Arsenal, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that PSG may consider the winger’s sale amid the Premier League interest.
With Leipzig so far proving reluctant sellers, Liverpool may choose to focus their attention on Barcola, which may allow PSG to finance a pursuit for Diomande and get the Ivorian his dream move this summer.
