Manchester City are ready to launch a fresh bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, having already seen one offer for the England man rejected by their Premier League rivals.

Anderson has been one of the hottest properties on the transfer market this summer with England’s biggest clubs jostling to sign the former Newcastle star.

Man City and Manchester United appear the likeliest candidates to land the 23-year-old, with the Premier League runners-up pushing hardest to land Anderson.

Man City will launch club-record Anderson bid

The Etihad club are getting ready to make a club-record bid for Anderson, according to transfer insider Nicolo Schira.

He reports: “Manchester City want to sign Elliot Anderson and are set to submit a new bid (around €135-140m) to Nottingham Forest to try to close the deal.

“He’s already agreed personal terms for a contract until 2031 with the midfielder, who is pushing to join Manchester City as soon as possible.”

There is no guarantee that Forest will accept this elevated offer. Previous reports have indicated that they are chasing a Premier League record deal to sell Anderson. This figure currently stands at €145m, which Liverpool paid Newcastle for Alexander Isak last summer. It would also smash City’s biggest signing, which was the deal that brought Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for €117.5m.

What does this mean for Man Utd?

Man Utd are unlikely to respond to such an offer. While Anderson is considered their dream midfield target, the Ineos-owned side are unwilling to break the bank on transfers, and while one marquee addition is expected this summer, any player is unlikely to be signed to that expense.

United’s stance is understandable given the huge premium that Man City appear to be paying to sign Anderson as an England international already at a Premier League club. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) sits at just €63.1m, which is less than half of what the Etihad club appear prepared to spend signing him.

As such, the Red Devils are likely to look at other midfield options, with Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba among the players they are studying along with World Cup sensations Ayyoub Bouaddi and Felix Nmecha.

City ‘confident’ on Anderson deal

All the indications are that Anderson to Manchester City is simply a matter of time.

Fabrizio Romano revealed via his X account: “Manchester City are confident to get Elliot Anderson deal done, now at the final stages after work behind the scenes.

“New round of talks to take place for the English midfielder who would undergo medical in the US before joining Man City if all goes to plan.”

It remains to be seen how firmly Forest hold their stance of demanding a Premier League record for Anderson, but City appear increasingly willing to push the boat out for the midfielder.
