Lucas Bergvall has been told he would not improve Arsenal or Chelsea after reportedly expressing a desire to leave Tottenham Hotspur. Bergvall’s future in north London has been the subject of speculation for some time, and there has now been a fresh update ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Athletic have reported that Bergvall has expressed a desire to leave Tottenham this summer and has communicated that wish to the club.
The update comes amid speculation that Chelsea may have an interest in signing Bergvall, while there have also been suggestions that Arsenal could be a potential destination.
Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has explained why he does not think Bergvall’s arrival would see an improvement to either Arsenal or Chelsea’s squad.
Sherwood also went on to explain where he thinks Bergvall needs to improve.
“Lucas Bergvall at Arsenal or Chelsea? Not from what I’ve seen,” Sherwood told Boyle Sports.
“No, I think he looks like a decent enough player. Looks like a good type, good lad, picks up a lot of injuries. But I couldn’t hang my hat on him because I haven’t seen him perform at a consistent level, really.
“I’ve seen him do nice bits. It’s not just Lucas I can say that about, it’s about all Tottenham players. Because if they’ve been consistent enough, they wouldn’t be in the position they were in.

“I don’t see him going there and improving them. I think they don’t need development players.
“They need players who are going to go into their team and improve them, like Cherki, like Guehi, like Semenyo at Man City. That’s the type of signing Arsenal need.
“You know, players who, alright, Cherki was outside of the Premier League, but he’s a superstar. We see that. Guehi and Semenyo are ready-made for the Premier League and hit the floor running.”

Bergvall is currently with the Sweden squad for this summer’s World Cup and has made cameo appearances from the bench in each of his country’s group stage matches against Tunisia and the Netherlands.
The next chance for Bergvall to feature for his country will be in Sweden’s final group match against Japan on Thursday night.
