Chelsea and Florian Wirtz transfer truth revealed after inevitable Xabi Alonso links

Liverpool attacker Florian Wirtz has been loosely linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer given the German’s relationship with incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso

Chelsea sources have rubbished speculation that Xabi Alonso is plotting a reunion with Liverpool playmaker Florian Wirtz this summer.

Alonso worked with Wirtz during their time at Bayer Leverkusen, with the incoming Blues manager getting the best football we have seen out of the Germany international. Wirtz’s form under Alonso earned him a £116million move to Liverpool last summer but it has not gone quite to plan for the former Leverkusen attacker at Anfield just yet.

The 23-year-old managed just seven goals and 10 assists for the Reds in 49 appearances in all competitions during his debut season in England. With Alonso getting his first Premier League job with Chelsea, speculation over a reunion has always seemed inevitable.

A report claims that Chelsea are ‘keeping tabs’ on Wirtz and could make a move depending on what happens with Enzo Fernandez this summer. football.london put that to a source close to the west London club and it has been dismissed.

Chelsea are targeting at least two starting-level players to join Alonso’s squad in time for the 44-year-old’s debut season at Stamford Bridge. A number of players have been linked with the west Londoners in recent weeks but sources close to the club told football.london a few days ago that there is no truth in rumours regarding John Stones, Ethan Nwaneri and Lucas Bergvall.

Wirtz is the latest name to add to that growing list.
