Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the latest news as Liverpool launch a €100m move, Arsenal seek to tie up their first signing of the summer and what’s happening with Enzo Fernandez.
Liverpool wrap up Victor Munoz deal
Liverpool have their first signing of the Andoni Iraola era, with a deal for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz now completely wrapped up.
“Victor Munoz completed his medical in the United States as a new Liverpool player. He signed a contract until June 2032 and the deal is worth €40 million,” Romano said.
“A little under €20m will go to Real Madrid because of the agreement they had with Osasuna when they sold the player.
“And one important thing to clarify. Many people in Spain are saying Real Madrid have a buyback clause for 2027. My understanding is that this is not the case.
“The only thing Real Madrid have is the right of first refusal. So if Liverpool receive an official bid in the future, Real Madrid have the possibility to match it. But even then, the player decides. So Real Madrid don’t have any guaranteed power to bring him back.”
Tottenham complete Van Hecke signing
Romano also confirmed another Premier League transfer.
“Tottenham have officially signed Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton,” he added.
“The deal is worth £52m and Brighton also have a sell-on clause worth around 20%.
“Luka Vuskovic is a completely different story.”
Liverpool launch first bid for Yan Diomande
Romano then moved onto Liverpool’s next target and confirmed an opening offer has already been rejected.
“Liverpool want to add another top winger. Yan Diomande is one name we have to mention and Bradley Barcola is another name we have to keep mentioning,” Romano said.
“For Diomande, Liverpool sent an official bid today. My understanding is that it was worth €90m plus €10m in add-ons. Red Bull Leipzig rejected the proposal. They are not accepting €100m.
“It was rejected for two reasons. First, they still dream of keeping the player and are telling him to stay one more season, sign a new contract and leave in 2027 with a release clause.
“But the player is really tempted by leaving now. Sources in the industry believe €120m could be the number to make the deal happen.
“And there is another reason why Leipzig are not rushing. They believe game after game at the World Cup, Diomande’s value could increase and more clubs could enter the race.
“There is Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain are still interested and more clubs could join.”
Romano subsequently added: “I expect Liverpool to return to the table.
“And I also expect Red Bull Leipzig to have their own strategy to try to involve more clubs.
“So it’s going to be an interesting situation to follow.”
Arsenal pushing to sign Jeremy Monga
Romano also revealed Arsenal have made their first move for Leicester talent Jeremy Monga.
“Arsenal sent their first official bid to Leicester City today,” he said.
“It’s not enough yet to get a deal done, but Arsenal are very confident and optimistic.
“This is completely separate from names like Morgan Rogers.
“Jeremy Monga is a talent they see with huge potential and they want to block the player now and find the best pathway for him.
“I think this deal will get done and I expect a here we go soon for Jeremy Monga to Arsenal.”
Inter lead race for Marco Palestra
Romano then explained that Inter have stolen a march on Premier League interest in Marco Palestra.
He explained: “Marco Palestra is one of the players under consideration at Chelsea and Manchester City.
“No official bid from Chelsea or City so far, but both clubs have been following him closely because he is considered one of the most interesting attacking wing-backs around.
“Inter submitted an official bid today worth €45m plus €5m in add-ons. It’s not enough yet to convince Atalanta, but the deal is getting closer.
“Palestra has agreed personal terms with Inter and would like to go there. There will be more meetings.
“Chelsea and Manchester City are following the player, but my understanding is that there are no official offers from abroad despite reports in Italy.”
No Real Madrid-Chelsea talks for Enzo Fernandez
Romano finished by addressing speculation surrounding Enzo Fernandez, who continues to be heavily linked with a move to Chelsea.
“In the last 24 hours there have been reports saying talks are starting, Real Madrid and Chelsea have an agreement and all these kinds of things. What I want to tell you is that Enzo Fernandez is one of the names on Real Madrid’s list,” he said.
“But between Chelsea and Real Madrid there have been zero contacts. As of Friday, zero negotiations and zero discussions.
“Someone said this could be another Cucurella deal done in 24 or 36 hours.
“We will see what happens, but Enzo Fernandes is not even in negotiations at this stage.
“In the next days I will explain more, but that is the situation right now.”
