Full steam ahead on Hall pursuit
Man Utd are planning to intensify their pursuit of Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall, TEAMtalk claims.
The Red Devils have been linked with numerous left-sided defenders in recent days, but reports in Spain have dismissed suggestions that Barcelona star Alejandro Balde could be on his way to Old Trafford. Instead, Hall is firmly the priority.
Newcastle would prefer to keep the England international and have slapped a €70 million price tag on his head, but Man Utd are poised to step up their efforts to sign him. They are convinced that he wants to join them.
Man Utd still keen on Adams
Man Utd remain keen on Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams, according to the Daily Mail.
The USMNT star is featured in a list of World Cup players who could put themselves in the shop window with strong performances this summer. Man Utd explored a deal for Adams over the winter before an injury – ironically suffered at Old Trafford – sidelined him.
It is claimed that Man Utd have continued to monitor Adams as he has returned to full fitness for Bournemouth and is now ready to star for the USMNT at the World Cup. He played the full 90 in the US’s 4-1 opening-game beatdown of Paraguay.
Casado remains an option
Another midfield option for Man Utd is Barcelona academy graduate Marc Casado, as per Mundo Deportivo.
The Red Devils already enquired about him in January, and they remain in contact with his representative, superagent Jorge Mendes. It is claimed that their “close” relationship with Mendes could aid them in securing a deal for Casado.
The player’s preference seems to be a move to Atletico Madrid, who also explored a deal in January, but Diego Simeone has yet to greenlight a transfer. It does look increasingly likely that Casado will be on the move after he struggled for minutes last season.
Ten Hag revenge
In a story tangentially related to Man Utd, former manager Erik ten Hag has finally managed to get one over on Barcelona for the failed Frenkie de Jong signing saga in 2022.
The Dutchman was desperate to bring his former Ajax protégé to Old Trafford, but his failure to do so would end up being one of the defining moments of his ill-fated tenure, with Man Utd instead forced to shell out more than €70m on Casemiro, who was not really what Ten Hag wanted for that midfield position.
Four years on, he has now managed to get a little bit of revenge on Barcelona by successfully fending off their interest in wonderkid defender Ruud Nijstad in his capacity as technical director of Twente. The 18-year-old has signed a new contract until 2029 with the Dutch side.
