Amid scenes of joy overshadowed by the impact of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, a charity organisation, funded by the Moroccan people, organised a mass wedding for 40 young disabled and injured Palestinians, including amputees, in the Mawasi area of Rafah in southern Gaza.
The event comes as Gaza residents continue to face severe humanitarian and economic hardships caused by the war that has been ongoing since 8 October 2023. The initiative aimed to bring happiness to participants and ease the financial burden that has prevented many young people from getting married.
Abdulrahman Al-Qadi, a young man with a physical disability and one of the beneficiaries of the initiative, said taking part in the mass wedding marked a long-awaited moment after years of difficulties.

“I have been engaged for many years, and the economic situation and the war were among the biggest obstacles to getting married. Today we feel great joy and hope our married life will begin well,” Al-Qadi told Anadolu Agency.
He said the initiative went beyond organising the ceremony, providing financial and in-kind assistance to help the newlyweds start their new lives.
Al-Qadi added that marriage costs have become beyond the reach of most young people in the Gaza Strip, making such initiatives an important opportunity for many.
