US Central Command says the Strait of Hormuz remains open to commercial shipping and that “safe pathways have been established for commercial vessels” travelling through the strategic waterway.
“The pathways are available to all vessels not violating the blockade against Iran. Hundreds of ships have transited the waterway in the past two months,” CENTCOM said in a social media post.
The statement comes a day after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed the Strait of Hormuz had been fully closed in response to recent US strikes.
