Christian Eriksen collapsed during the second half of Denmark’s friendly vs Ukraine.
Christian Eriksen is conscious and in good spirits following his collapse during the friendly fixture between Denmark and Ukraine, passing on a message to his team-mates. The match was abandoned after the medical emergency involving the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.
Reports suggest players were left in tears as they gathered around their team-mate while he received medical attention, five years after his cardiac episode at Euro 2020. Blankets were called for to provide him with additional privacy.
Eriksen received initial treatment on the pitch before being transported to hospital via ambulance. The 34-year-old is reported to have walked to the ambulance unaided, with supporters from both sides applauding and chanting his name in a show of solidarity.

The match was brought to a halt after just 65 minutes. Denmark had been leading 2-1, with Patrick Dorgu and Joakim Maehle having put them ahead before Viktor Tsygankov pulled one back for Ukraine.
Ex-Arsenal forward Nicklas Bendtner told TV2 that it was: “Absolutely right to cancel the match and not play on.”
National team doctor Morten Boesen provided an encouraging update on the midfielder’s condition, even revealing the message he had for his Danish teammates. “Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch himself. As I see it, the pacemaker gave a shock, as it is supposed to,” he said.
“He was briefly out, but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him. Now he needs to be examined further at the hospital to find out what caused the incident.
“We are continuously in contact with him and the doctors at the hospital. But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to say hello to all the players and say that he was okay.”
During a fixture against Finland in 2021, Eriksen experienced a cardiac arrest while playing. He underwent life-saving intervention and was revived on the pitch on that occasion, as the footballing community held its breath following distressing scenes.
Subsequently, Eriksen was equipped with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator device designed to restore normal heart rhythm, enabling him to make his comeback.
The midfielder joined Brentford to revive his playing days in February 2022, after being prohibited from featuring for Inter Milan in Italy while fitted with his ICD device.
Since that point, the experienced midfielder has progressed his career at Manchester United and Wolfsburg, while surpassing 150 appearances for his country.
Eriksen had left Spurs for Milan in 2020, after seven years in north London and with just over 300 appearances under his belt.
