Ruben Loftus-Cheek has seen enough of Ederson in Serie A to give a glowing reference to Man United fans

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has backed Ederson to succeed at Manchester United ahead of his impending arrival from Atalanta.

Ederson, 26, will officially put pen to paper at Old Trafford in early July when FIFA’s international transfer clearing system opens after agreeing a £39million move.

The Brazilian is Michael Carrick’s first signing since becoming permanent United boss, replacing his compatriot Casemiro, whose contract expired. Meanwhile, Manuel Ugarte is also expected to leave the Red Devils this summer.

Ederson, a versatile midfielder capable of playing as a No6 or box-to-box No8, has made 138 appearances for Italian side Atalanta, scoring 13 goals.

One man who has had a closer look at Ederson than most is former Chelsea midfielder Loftus-Cheek, who has been plying his trade at AC Milan.

And now he has given United supporters a taste of what to expect from their maiden summer signing.

Speaking to Sky Sports at the Monaco Grand Prix, Cheek said: ‘He’ll do just fine. The times we’ve played against each other, he’s been very physical. He’s quick, he’s strong, he’s good on the ball. I think he’ll do really well – he’s a good signing.’
