Man Utd favourites for Tonali

Man Utd have “moved ahead” of Arsenal and Man City in the race to sign Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, CaughtOffside claims.

The Red Devils’ recruitment department has received the backing of co-owners INEOS to pursue a deal for the Italy international, with the Old Trafford outfit said to be poised to make a bid potentially worth just over €90 million.

Man Utd want to test the waters for Tonali with a strong bid, knowing that Newcastle would prefer not to sell. The Magpies are demanding a fee in excess of €100m. It is believed that Man Utd are the favourites for the midfielder because Arsenal and Man City are prioritising other players.

Ederson deal 100% confirmed

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has reiterated that Man Utd’s signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson is “100% confirmed.”

The Red Devils reached a full agreement with the Serie A club earlier this week. The two clubs settled on a financial package of €45m for the Brazil international, who had already agreed terms with Man Utd last month.

Romano states that all the necessary paperwork has now been exchanged and signed off on, so the deal is officially under wraps. However, as previously reported, it is believed that Man Utd will only announce the signing of Ederson in July.

Greenwood to Fenerbahce?

Romano also addressed the speculation surrounding disgraced former Man Utd forward Mason Greenwood.

The Marseille attacker has become entangled in Fenerbahce’s presidential elections, with candidate Hakan Safi claiming that he has agreed personal terms to sign Greenwood.

According to Romano, it is true that Safi has an agreement with the player. Crucially, though, there is no agreement with Marseille on a fee yet. The French giants are demanding up to €55m.

Man Utd are paying close attention to this story because they are owed a significant chunk of the fee Marseille receive for Greenwood. “Man Utd have a heavy sell-on clause included in the deal with Marseille,” Romano said. “And it’s not five, seven or ten per cent. It’s more than this.”

West Ham shake-up to influence Fernandes deal?

West Ham’s post-relegation shake-up has continued with joint-chair David Sullivan announcing his resignation amid “serious historic allegations.”

Karren Brady stepped down from her role as vice-chair in April, while recruitment chief Max Hahn quit last week. It remains to be seen how exactly the departures of these high-ranking figures will influence the Hammers’ summer business.

But it could affect Man Utd’s well-documented pursuit of Mateus Fernandes. West Ham have been insisting on a fee north of €80m, while Man Utd are said to value the Portugal international at around €50m.
