Poland head coach Jan Urban has reflected on his team’s performance in Wednesday night’s friendly against Nigeria, Completesports.com reports.
The Red and Whites held the Super Eagles to a draw at the 58,000-capacity Stadion PGE Narodowy, Warsaw.
Hard-Fought Draw
Poland took control of the game from the start, and Jakub Kaminski came close to handing them the lead from a header in the fourth minute.
The Super Eagles went in front through Terem Moffi in the 23rd minute.
Moses Simon set up Moffi for a simple tap-in after receiving a marvelous pass from captain Wilfred Ndidi.
The effort was initially ruled out, but the VAR called the attention of the referee and eventually awarded the goal.
Poland had a corner in added time of the first half, and from the goalmouth melee, Kacper Potuski slid the ball past Okoye for the White-Reds’ equaliser.
In the 73rd minute , the Video Assistant Referee awarded Nigeria a penalty, and Paul Onuachu made no mistake from six yards.
Just when it looked like the Eagles had secured two wins in two matches against the White-Reds, Przemyslaw Wiśniewski fired past Okoye from 25 yards to ensure honours were shared on the night.
Orban Thumbs Up Poland Performance
Orban expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance against the Super Eagles.
“The scenario from the previous matches repeated itself – we played, the opponent scored. But I wasn’t concerned because we played well. And we played well after the goal. It was a good match against a good team,” Orban was quoted by laczynaspilka.pl.
“That goal could have been easily prevented. Up until that point, only Kamil Grabara’s clearance created a dangerous situation. I know how everyone should react in this situation. Never mind the names.
“The worst thing is that the opponent doesn’t create countless chances and takes only two or three. They’re very cruel to us. But these are friendly matches; they won’t judge us for them.
“Today was a really good match. I didn’t feel helpless, looking at the players who had the entire season in their stride during this training camp. I would have behaved the same way after the entire season. I know this from experience.”
