Arsenal will be back in Community Shield action later this summer
Arsenal will take on Manchester City in Community Shield action after the date for English football’s 2026/27 campaign curtain raiser was confirmed. The Gunners will take on last season’s title rivals on Sunday, August 16.
The match, which has been held at Wembley Stadium in recent years, will be played at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium for the first time since 2006.
The Welsh national stadium has a rich history in hosting major football events, having hosted FA Cup finals and the Community Shield on six previous occasions between 2001 and 2006.
The Community Shield clash will return to Wales due to alterations to the 2026-27 foootball calendar, with Wembley Stadium unavailable on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 of August due to pre-planned concerts.
The clash between the Premier League winners, Arsenal, and the FA Cup winners Manchester City, will be shown live on TNT Sports 1 and HBO Max, with ticketing details set to be announced in due course.

The Gunners will be looking to win the trophy for the 17th time in the club’s history, having last done so in 2023.
Mikel Arteta’s side defeated Manchester City on penalties after Leandro Trossard’s late equaliser cancelled out Cole Palmer’s opener.
If the Gunners are successful in the final, it will be the third time Arteta has won the competition, having also guided the club to success in 2020.
Arsenal beat Liverpool 5-4 on penalties after drawing that game 1-1, just a few months after Arteta’s side won the FA Cup.
This time round, the Gunners head into the game as defending Premier League champions after ending their 22-year wait for a top-flight title.
