Enzo Fernandez wants to leave Chelsea in the upcoming summer transfer window, with Real Madrid interested in the midfielder, football.london understands.
The Blues want to keep Fernandez, though will not stand in his way if they receive an offer of £120million. The west London club paid Benfica £106.7m in 2023 – an at-the-time British transfer record – and want to make a healthy profit if a sale were to happen this summer.
Manchester City are also keen on Fernandez, but nothing is advancing even though Enzo Maresca has agreed a deal to take over from Pep Guardiola this summer.
Fernandez flirted with a move to Real Madrid during the March international break; saying he would love to live in the Spanish capital one day. Those comments didn’t go down too well with Chelsea given Los Blancos’ interest in the midfielder. Liam Rosenior made the decision to ban the Argentina international for two matches.

His agent Javier Pastore described the ban as “completely unfair” in an interview at the start of April and also threatened Chelsea that his client would seek a move elsewhere should the two parties fail to reach an agreement over a new contract.
The 25-year-old’s entourage opened negotiations with the Blues “over December/January” but did not find common ground over fresh terms.
Fernandez believes he should be earning much more than he is currently due to his significance in the squad. That cannot be argued: Fernandez finished the 2025/26 campaign with 15 goals and seven assists in all competitions, all from midfield.
The former Benfica midfielder was said to be extremely disappointed when Enzo Maresca departed Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Day and sources believe that was the start of what went on to become a transfer saga.
That saga reached its peak in March with Pastore’s comments and Chelsea were furious when the agent, a former Argentina international himself, went public with his message.
The defeat to Sunderland on Sunday, where Fernandez was spotted waving towards the away supporters, could well be his final-ever match for Chelsea.
