The invitation of Czech Republic-based defender, Abdullahi Bewene to the Super Eagles’ camp has revived memories of Nigeria’s football followers about the huge youth development values in Plateau State’s capital, Jos.
Sports247 reports that this is due to the fact that Bewene (aka Abba Messi) was born in Jos, where he was groomed in the round leather game at one of the leading football academies in The Tin City.

Bewen now joins the list of Jos-born Nigerian football legends that includes Alloysius Atuegbu, Benedict Akwuegbu, John Mikel Obi, Victor Obinna Nsofor, Eddy Ogenyi Onazi, Joseph Akpala, Moses Simon and Ahmed Musa among many others.
Detailed information about the rookie and what he can offer the Super Eagles are contained in a post by Attahiru Babayo, who rated Abdullahi Bewene Ibrahim as a reliable defender with impressive performances for Czech top-flight outfit, Banik Ostrava.
Babayo also noted that the 21-year-old right-back’s invitation is a further confirmation of the huge potential of this lad, who began his career at TBC Academy of Jos before moving to Central FC of Abuja, then joined Banik Ostrava in 2023.
He added, “During the 2023/24 season, he featured for Banik Ostrava B. He also gained valuable experience in loan spells with Havířov and HŠK Cromířž, before returning to establish himself in Banik Ostrava’s first team.
“Since breaking into the senior squad, Bewene has become one of the club’s standout performers, earning praise for his versatility, consistency, and strong displays in the Czech First League.
“His rise is a testament to his hard work, determination and dedication. His maiden call-up also marks a significant milestone in the young defender’s career. It offers him an opportunity to showcase his talent on the international stage.
“Nigerian football fans will be hoping that Abdullahi Bewene Ibrahim makes the most of this opportunity as he prepares to proudly wear the green and white colours of the Super Eagles for the very first time.”
