Oyo State commissioner for sports, Honourable Wasilat Adegoke has come out with a daring declaration that the qualification of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan for the CAF Confederation Cup did not come by chance or luck.

Sports247 reports that the commissioner is already thinking big that The Oluyole Warriors’ will do well next season on the continental terrain, because she recalls how they fought hard for the ticket and asserted that they duly deserve it.
The commissioner also urged the players to make the best of their historic return to the African clubs’ scene and commended the state’s governor, Seyi Makinde for what she referred to as his commitment to sports development.
Adegoke added that 3SC’s return to continental football is an ‘exclusive and landmark record’ that reflects the state government’s investment in sports under Governor Makinde’s administration.
According to her, Makinde’s interventions in upgrading Lekan Salami Stadium as and as prompt payment of salaries, settlement of allowances and provision of all needs for logistics were key to restoring the club’s competitiveness.
While promising that the ministry will continue to work with 3SC management to ensure adequate preparation ahead of the continental campaign, she eulogized the chairman of Shooting Stars, Honourable Taiwo Salami for his steady leadership.
She also showered praise on the club’s management, players and technical crew for their discipline, resilience and professionalism throughout the season, then saluted the club’s supporters for their unwavering loyalty during home and away matches.
Adegoke further noted that the fans played a critical role in pushing the team to secure the continental slot and urged the players to sustain the tempo by giving their best to represent Oyo State and Nigeria with pride on the continental stage.
“Shooting Stars’ continental ticket did not happen by chance. It is the result of deliberate support from His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the hard work of everyone at the club.
“From the boardroom to the pitch, 3SC has shown what is possible when government and sports stakeholders align,” said Adegoke, who recalled that Shooting Stars won Nigeria’s first continental club title way back in 1976.
