Real Madrid could target another raid on Liverpool this summer, with Jose Mourinho reportedly eyeing a key player from the Premier League side to strengthen his new team.
Mourinho is expected to be named as Real Madrid’s new manager once the Spanish club’s elections are finished later this week, with the 63-year-old already believed to have signed his contract to join from Benfica.
Real Madrid look set to celebrate Mourinho’s arrival with a double signing after agreeing a €20 million deal to sign Denzel Dumfries from Inter as well as Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer.
Konate announced last week that he would be leaving Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the month, with Los Blancos in pole position to confirm a deal, and the defender could be joined in Madrid by another Anfield teammate in Alexis Mac Allister.
According to Argentine outlet Ole, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has outlined Mac Allister as a top target for the club if he defeats rival Enrique Riquelme during the elections on 7 June.
Mac Allister’s contract at Liverpool is set to expire in 2028 and reports in Spain have claimed that negotiations are yet to open over a new deal, making the 27-year-old’s departure this summer a possibility at the right price.
Mac Allister open to La Liga move as Iraola appointment could impact Liverpool future
Mac Allister has been a key figure for Liverpool since joining the club for €42m in 2023 and he featured in 37 of the Reds’ 38 Premier League matches last season.
The Argentine international’s ability to play both in defensive midfield and further forward is said to appeal to Madrid, while Mac Allister is described as being ‘open’ to a move to La Liga this summer.
Atletico Madrid could also push to sign Mac Allister after seeing top target Ederson agree to join Manchester United this week, with the presence of Diego Simeone and a number of Argentine internationals likely to prove tempting for the Liverpool man.
Much will depend on the decision of Andoni Iraola, who is set to be appointed as Liverpool’s new head coach following the sacking of Arne Slot last week, with the incoming Spaniard unlikely to want to sanction the departure of a key player unless a replacement can be secured.
