Meadow Hall School sensation Oguegbu Naetochukwu stole the spotlight at the Dolphin Swimming League Season 7 Awards after delivering a remarkable haul of 15 gold medals to emerge as one of the competition’s biggest stars.

The young swimmer’s dominant performances throughout the season earned him recognition among the league’s top athletes during the awards ceremony held in Lagos on Saturday, underlining his status as one of Nigeria’s most promising swimming talents.
Oguegbu’s achievement was one of the standout stories of the season as he consistently outperformed his peers across multiple events, showcasing exceptional skill, endurance and determination.
His 15-gold-medal haul ranked among the best individual performances in the competition and marked him out as a future star of Nigerian aquatics.
While Oguegbu grabbed the headlines, Grange School’s Aidan Dumuje-Abili also continued his impressive rise in the sport, earning recognition among the league’s elite performers after another outstanding campaign.
In the female category, Oluwatofunmi Ibidapo of Grange School successfully defended her Best Female Swimmer title for the second consecutive year. Ibidapo finished the season with an impressive collection of 14 gold medals and one silver medal, further establishing herself as one of the country’s leading youth swimmers.
Reflecting on her achievement, Ibidapo said:
“After winning last year, I knew I had to redouble my efforts to retain the title. With the support of my parents, I was able to achieve that. Next season, I hope to make it three in a row through even greater dedication and hard work.”
At the team level, St Saviour’s School, Ikoyi, retained its crown as the Best Primary School after amassing 954.5 points, while Grange School emerged as the Best Secondary School with an impressive 1,074 points.
Boken Club also enjoyed a successful outing, claiming the Best Club awards in both the primary and secondary categories.
Former President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, Babatunde Fatayi-Williams, commended the organisers for creating a sustainable platform for talent discovery and development.
Describing the competition’s impact on swimming in Nigeria, he said:
“The Dolphin Swimming League is the best to have emerged from Nigeria.”
League Technical Director Samuel Jesimiel highlighted the developmental value of the competition, stressing that it is already producing swimmers capable of representing Nigeria at major international events in the future.
He also praised the role of parents and guardians in supporting the athletes and ensuring the continued growth of the league.
“The commitment of parents and guardians has been instrumental to the success of the league. Their support continues to motivate us to improve standards and provide opportunities for these young athletes,” Jesimiel noted.
Organised annually by Dynaspro Sports Promotion in collaboration with Advanta Interactive Limited, the Dolphin Swimming League receives technical backing from the Lagos State Aquatic Association and is sanctioned by the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the Nigeria School Sport Federation.
With Oguegbu’s 15-gold-medal heroics, Ibidapo’s successful title defence and the continued dominance of St Saviour’s and Grange School, Season 7 once again showcased the immense potential of Nigeria’s next generation of swimming champions.
