It may have been Pep Guardiola’s final farewell on Monday evening, but Manchester City women’s star striker Khadija Shaw may have had the biggest mic drop moment of the night when she announced, at the eleventh hour, she will STAY with WSL champions City.
“I’m still here, I’m still hungry and there’s no place I’d rather be,” she said.
This will be the big narrative going into the FA Cup final on Sunday afternoon, with reports that she may have been ready to swap City for Chelsea in the summer.
It ended up being a record deal for the league and bettered Chelsea’s offer of £1.2m per season.
City won their first WSL title in seven years and could claim a domestic double by bagging the FA Cup.
But they face a side who are riding a crest of a wave right now. Brighton are on an impressive seven games unbeaten across all competitions, as well as having a big say in the title race.
Manager Dario Vidosic looked to have put a dent in City’s pursuit of a first WSL title in a decade when they won 3-2 at the end of last month; however, the Seagulls then helped us seal top spot by drawing 1-1 with Arsenal on 6 May.
City are the deserving favourites to claim the silverware but Brighton were one of the form teams in the league in the back end of the season before a last day defeat to Tottenham. The Seagulls beat Liverpool in the summer final. Could the fairytale have a storybook ending?

With the ink on her new deal still drying, Khadija Shaw will be the standout threat to the Brighton back line.
Shaw bagged 26 goals in all competitions this season, with four in three FA Cup matches en-route to the final.
The angst of her proposed departure will be replaced by joy among the fans, which could see Shaw power City in front early.
