Arsenal of England’s Nigerian-born winger, Bukayo Saka has raised the ante ahead of Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final versus Paris-Saint Germain of France, as he said The Gunners want to rewrite history, Sports247 reports.
While many pundits believe PSG have an edge to retain the trophy they won last year and the Paris-based side also defeated Arsenal in the semi-finals en route to their conquest of Europe, Saka insists The Gunners are fired up to win on Saturday.
Saka also took his mind back to his early days at Arsenal Hale End academy and admitted that winning the UCL for the first time ever would be a huge contribution from him to the club that gave him his breakthrough in the round leather game.
He also mentioned the role of prayers in the task of turning all odds against the favourites, as the lad born in England to Nigerian parents reckoned that they would not the guidance of God and a touch of luck to carry the day in Budapest.
“I’m very excited about the opportunity to win another trophy and create history for the club that I love. I know exactly what this triumph would mean for the fans. I’ve been on this journey, loving this club, seeing the ups and downs.
“We felt what it meant for them after winning the Premier League. We’re very excited, but trying to stay focused, it’s a great opportunity I think we have enough fire going into the game tomorrow. We can write history.
“That alone for us is enough of a motivation for us. I don’t think about pressure too much. I just try to enjoy it and leave the rest in God’s hands,” said Saka, who will have to shake of fitness worries in order to get a starting shirt for the 5pm kick-off.
