Sophomore jumper Prestina Ochonogor booked her ticket to Eugene after producing a solid 6.51m (q) effort in the women’s long jump at the NCAA West First Round.
Representing Tarleton State, the Nigerian continued her strong season with another composed performance on the runway, comfortably doing enough to advance to the national championships.
Sports247 reports that the versatile athlete also returned later to compete in the women’s 100m, clocking 11.67 seconds in her heat to round off a busy outing.
Ochonogor’s qualification further strengthens Nigeria’s presence in the field events, with the youngster continuing to show consistency and growth at collegiate level.
Meanwhile, in the East Regionals, freshman thrower Jessica Oji delivered one of the standout performances of the preliminaries in the women’s shot put.
Representing Penn State, Oji unleashed a massive throw of 18.26m (59-11) to finish first overall at the NCAA East Prelims and secure qualification to Eugene as the top-ranked athlete from her region.
The mark highlights her immense potential and underlines her status as one of the most exciting Nigerian talents in the throws category.
Finishing as the overall leader heading into the championships also positions her as a serious contender for podium honors in Eugene.
