Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) vice-president, Tanimu Adamu has admitted that the governing body is in a race against time for them to fit into the international calendar and get the country’s representatives ready.

Sports247 reports that Adamu, who is also chairman of NVBF’s league management committee, disclosed that the domestic championship must end on June 4th in order for Nigeria to meet up with registration formalities.
He added that financial difficulties almost prevented the ongoing 2026 Phase One Division One and Division Two National League Championships from going ahead at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Adamu confessed that the federation faced financial and logistical challenges in organising the competition, but apologised on behalf of the president, Musa Nimrod, and board members over their delayed commencement of the league.
While confirming that congested international volleyball calendar and inadequate funding affected preparations for the championship, Adamu stressed that further delay in commencing the league would have disrupted the federation’s calendar.
He equally spoke about the need to commence preparations for major events, as Nigeria is scheduled to participate in four international tournaments within three months – in Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya and at home.
“This is a year with several international competitions lined up, including Olympic qualification in beach volleyball and Nations Cup. If we fail to start now, it will become a disaster for our calendar and preparations for international competitions.
“Eleven teams are competing in Division One, while seven teams feature in Division Two and the championship will end on June 4,” said Adamu, who also disclosed that members of the NVBF are funding activities with their own money.
