Sports247 reports that this assurance was provided by the competition’s initiator and sponsor, Honourable Omonlei Yakubu Imadu, who is also the vice-president of Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) and southwest zonal representative.

He added that the competition, which will be staged under the aegis of Yucateco Boxing Promotions, is aimed at showcasing a new generation of Nigerian boxers on a quarterly basis and expose emerging talents in the squared ropes.

Imadu disclosed further that the championship, which aims to revive boxing in Nigeria, will bring together skilled fighters, coaches, officials, promoters and boxing enthusiasts in a thrilling showcase of talent, discipline and sportsmanship.

“The competition is part of ongoing efforts of creating opportunities for young athletes to gain exposure and develop their careers. We are committed to building a strong boxing structure in the country through regular competitions.

“The championship will also serve as a platform to identify promising boxers capable of competing at national and international levels through intense bouts across different weight categories, with exciting performances by rising boxers.”

Sports247 gathered further that, beyond action in the ring, the maiden Southwest Developmental Boxing Tournament will also inspire youths and encourage greater participation in the sport as a tool for empowerment and social development.
